Upgrading the boat dolly

This an update to the boat mover dolly that was constructed in 2014. After repeated use, the bicycle tires were failing under the combined weight of the dolly and boat. The threaded 1/2″ shaft was not sufficient either – it was buckling under the weight load, causing the tire to rub against the chassis.

I decided to upgrade the wheels and the shaft. Wheelbarrow wheels (purchased from Princess Auto) were used with a thicker 3/4″ iron shaft. A tow mount was added so it could be moved effortlessly by a lawn tractor or ATV.

Total cost for the upgrade was about $120.

The YouTube video above details the process involved.
